Three Reasons Pets Can Ruin Your Carpeting

pet-dog-cat-urine-on-carpetPets can be great. Whether it’s a cat, dog, or some other animal, they can offer companionship and research studies have shown that can help alleviate significant levels of anxiety and even help people lower blood pressure. Just the simple act of petting a small cat or dog helps to soothe the person doing it.

There are many wonderful benefits to having a pet, but they can also destroy your carpeting. Here are three reasons pets can actually ruin your carpeting.

Reason #1: Urine.

When a cat is trained to use the litter box, it will generally do that consistently each and every time. However, if that litter box is not cleaned out consistently, it’s not only an unsanitary and unhealthy situation, it can also force that animal to seek somewhere else to relieve itself.

Dogs can sometimes have accidents even after they are house trained. The urine or feces can stay in the carpet, get deep down into the carpet pile, and create an unpleasant odor.

Reason #2: Shedding.

Most dogs and cats shed their fur on a consistent basis. Even though you may vacuum every couple of days, some of that fur is going to get trapped in the carpet fibers. Over time, it’s going to change the appearance of your carpeting, making it appear a bit older and dirtier.

Reason #3: Tracking in dirt and mud.

Dogs or even outdoor cats will often bring in a lot of dirt and other foreign contaminants into your house. Some of this can be almost impossible to see with the naked eye, especially if it is the same color of your carpeting. However, even if you vacuum consistently, it’s not going to get all of that dirt up.

That’s why it’s so important to rely on a professional carpet cleaning service every six months if you own a pet. That will help your home smell fresher and be healthier now and well into the future.
