Get That Central Air System Cleaned Before Your Carpets

central airYou’re planning to have your carpets professionally cleaned. That’s a great idea. In fact, every homeowner should have their carpets professionally cleaned at least once a year.

In truth, it’s best to have carpets professionally cleaned twice a year, in the fall and spring months, but that may not always be practical for every homeowner.

Just because you get your carpets professionally cleaned, though, that doesn’t mean they’re going to remain looking and feeling great for very long, especially if you don’t pay attention to other aspects of your home’s cleanliness. One of those could be the central heating or air conditioning system.

Few homes throughout the Greater Toronto Area actually have central air, but many of them have forced hot air heating systems for the winter. This means having ductwork throughout the house. The registers are the vents, whether they are in the floor, along the base of the wall, or even up toward the ceiling or in the ceiling itself.

These registers can generally be cleaned relatively easily, but cleaning out the ductwork is a much more challenging process. If the ducts are not cleaned on a consistent and regular basis, every time the heating system (or possibly air conditioning) turns on, it’s going to be blowing that dust into the air. Where is it going to settle?

On your carpets. So, before you plan on having your carpets professionally cleaned, it’s a good idea to have an experienced HVAC technician come out to inspect the ducts and clean them all out with special equipment.

Having the ducts in your house cleaned out once a year is a good idea. That will help to keep your carpets looking and feeling clean, fresh, and comfortable for many years to come.
