Planning on Renting a Carpet Cleaning Machine? What You Should Know

dollar-signYour carpets are a couple of years old. With children, parties, and other events taking place in your home and just the daily rigors of life, you’ve noticed the condition of those carpets beginning to decline significantly.

Perhaps you went out and purchased some carpet cleaning powder, spread it around, and vacuumed it up hoping to at least get rid of some of the stale or musty smell that has been caused by your pets. It didn’t do much, did it?

Now you may be thinking it’s time to purchase a carpet cleaning machine or even rent one. Let’s talk plainly, shall we?

If you’re going to spend several hundred dollars on a carpet cleaning machine, one that uses water, it may sound like a great deal, but those machines don’t have a lot of power. It may clean the outer layers of the carpet fibers, and that can create the illusion of cleanliness, but most of the dirt that causes your carpets to deteriorate quickly and cause a musty odor reside in the deeper layers of the carpet fibers, all the way down to the foam under padding. Those store-bought machines simply don’t have enough power to clean that deep into the carpet fibers.

So, you may be thinking about renting a professional style carpet cleaning machine. That certainly sounds reasonable, and while it will certainly have more power, there are a lot of issues you need to keep in mind.

You have no idea who rented the machine before you or what they cleaned with it. There are no regulations regarding what can be cleaned up with these machines.

The person who used it before you may have cleaned up bodily fluids, such as after a crime scene or accident. It happens all the time.

Independent individuals who start their own carpet cleaning service often rent these machines to clean up nasty jobs. They know full well they don’t want to have to take the entire machine apart to clean it properly, and by legal standards, nor are they required to.

That means when you begin using that machine in your home, you may be inadvertently transferring some of those fluids and other contaminants into your home.

The best thing you can do to help restore your carpets to a like new condition is to rely on a professional carpet cleaning service that has truck mounted equipment.
