That Pet Stain’s Gone, So Why Does It Still Smell?

musty smell in carpetYour new dog took a while to be properly housetrained. It was frustrating, there were plenty of accidents, and even when you thought you were free and clear of further issues, you came home one of the night and saw the stain on the carpet, and your heart sank.

That carpet was relatively new. Maybe you only had it installed a year to go. Now it seems it’s ruined.

You set about properly blotting the stain, applying water, and continued to blot it up until there was no hint of yellow coming out of the carpet. You allowed it to dry, analyzed it, and it seemed as though all of the urine was properly removed. You are content.

Several days later, after a few hot days with the sun beating in, you came home and noticed that urine odor lingering in the house. Your heart sank as you thought your new dog had another accident. You went throughout the house, checked under furniture, in the corners, and couldn’t find anything. You even asked your spouse, kids, or anyone else in the house to check with you. You didn’t find any sign of another mishap.

So why does it still smell?

Most likely has to do with the part of the urine you didn’t get out. When there is an accident or mishap on carpeting and something spilled on it, whether it’s pet urine, wine, grape juice, pasta sauce, or anything else, some of them liquid will get deeper down into the carpet pile then you can see or access. You can move the carpet fibers aside, stick your finger down deep with the paper towel on it, and blot all the way to the base of the carpeting, but you’re still not going to get it all up.

Some of the urine may have trickled down onto the foam under padding beneath the carpet. Over time, it’s going to create a vile older, especially when your home is locked up tight during the day while you’re at work.

What’s the solution?

Hiring a professional carpet cleaning service to come out, use truck mounted equipment and proper cleaning solutions, they can remove every aspect of that pet urine, helping you avoid continued exposure to those foul odors.
