Look Up, Look Down … Dust is All Around and If You Don’t Clean it all Regularly, You Could be Dealing with More than Sneezing

dealing with more then sneezingIf you’re like a lot of homeowners in Toronto, you can’t stand dust. It gets on everything, gets stirred up in the air, makes you sneeze, and keeps you from enjoying a comfortable and fully healthy lifestyle. Yet no matter how often you dust, within a matter of days it’s all coming back.

You begin to wonder just what you could possibly be doing wrong. Is it the dusting method you’re using? Are you keeping the front door open too long when coming and going into your home? Is somebody just tracking it in with them?

It’s probably none of the above. In fact, no matter how often you dust, unless it’s daily (and thoroughly every day), dust is going to build up. You could get along the top of the window molding, around baseboards, on every inch of counter space and piece of furniture, keep your home sealed up tight, only darting in and out of the doors minimally and guess what? You’re going to have dust building up every week.

What Dust Is

That’s because 80 percent of the dust you find in your home is dead skin cells. Don’t worry, that’s not meaning you have some horror movie taking place in the attic. It means that the human body (along with animal skin) sheds its dead skin cells regularly. It’s part of the rejuvenation process.

So unless you kept every single person out of your house and managed to ensure there were no mice or other pests floating around in it, you’re going to have to deal with dust. And it can get into everything. It will get on the fabric of your couch, into the carpet, and even the drapes. Basic vacuuming is not enough to get it all out.

For that you would need a professional cleaning service every few months to come to your home and thoroughly clean. Once you hire a professional cleaning service (which is not the same as a basic housekeeper), you’ll wish you’d done this a long time ago. You’ll even breathe easier, especially if you have allergies to dust, pollen (in the spring), or other materials.
