With Kids or even Adults, Fingerprints on the Walls Can be Common and this is How to Remove Them

fingerprints on wallsWhen you have children, you probably know full well the impact they can have on the cleanliness of your home. One of the major challenges parents have is keeping fingerprints off the walls. Even adults may have a tendency to place their hand on a wall and if it is a light-colored wall, the dirt, grease, and other stains can be transferred to the paint.

It’s best to avoid getting overly upset about the situation because, after all, kids will be kids. The best way to remove them, if possible, is to spray them down with a basic cleaning solution or using mild soap and water and a soft sponge.

If you had the walls painted with a stain resistant style, it may be as easy as wiping them down with a damp cloth. However, kids as well as adults can get into a lot of different things and those fingerprints and handprints might remain, regardless of your best efforts.

Here are a few steps to take, that can help you remove these stains that are stubborn and can’t be removed with basic cleaning solutions.

It requires chalk and microfiber cloth.

Step 1. Take a piece of white chalk and cut it down so that it is a smooth angle rather than a sharp edge that a fresh piece of chalk has.

Step 2. Take the chalk and rub it over the outline of the hand in fingerprints. If you use a sharp edge of the chalk, it could create scratch marks in the wall, which is something you don’t want. Avoid using colored chalk as this can stain as well.

Step 3. Let the chalk sit for about five minutes.

Step 4. Take your microfiber cloth and simply dust off the chalk residue. You’ll probably still see a little bit of chalk remaining behind on the fingerprint and oily marks.

Step 5. Wet the microfiber cloth and wipe down the chalk marks one more time. Avoid using too much water on the cloth. You’ll notice the fingerprints and other stains are almost completely gone. If they are not completely gone, repeat steps two through five once again.
