It’s Not Just What’s in Your Carpets, but What’s Under Them, Too

Carpet Phobia: 3 Reasons You Still Might Have Dust Mites even if You Got Rid of All the Carpeting at HomeYour carpets are old. You’ve been thinking about replacing them, but you don’t have the money or really don’t want to make the investment in them. Perhaps you purchased a better vacuum cleaner and they look a little bit better, but what you don’t see is what’s residing within the carpet fibers.

It’s not even what’s in the carpet fibers, which can include allergens, bacteria, germs, and other pollutants, but what’s under your carpet that could be a problem.

The foam under padding.

Underneath your wall-to-wall carpet is a foam padding. This helps to provide more comfort and a softer feel underneath your feet, but over time it begins to break down. It also traps a lot of dust and dirt that can make its way down through the carpet pile and the vinyl material underneath. Carpet experts, when they remove really old carpet, have to deal with a lot of dust and dirt.

There’s a reason they wear masks when removing old carpeting and the foam under padding. A lot of that dust can be really bad for you.

Imagine what it could be doing to your family.

While a professional carpet cleaning service can only do so much for older carpeting, they can help to improve indoor air quality tremendously just by a thorough cleaning.

However, if your carpets are at least 10 years old and haven’t had any type of professional carpet cleaning service working on them through the years, it’s time to replace them.

You may have some other carpet cleaning service tell you they can do wonders, but when carpeting is that old, especially if it has seen a lot of use, a lot of stains, and a lot of abuse, it’s better to have it replaced and then keep on top of the cleanliness with a professional cleaning at least every year, if not every six months.
